Cape converted to a colonial, Rye, NY

Project location: Rye, NY
Project type: Addition/Alteration
Completion date: 2006
Architect: Brad DeMotte, R.A.

The existing house was a cape on a corner lot. A growing family in need of more living space prompted this project, which was to remove the roof & build a second story addition. The 1 car garage was removed and replaced with a 2 car garage, shifted forward on the site which allowed for a side entry & mud room behind the garage. The footprint of the house was also squared off, which allowed for a simple 2 story gabled structure for the main body of the house. As is typical with projects like this, the cape was transformed into a colonial. A flat-roofed front covered porch was also designed, providing a great place to people watch.
